The Urinary Catheter course equips individuals with the essential skills and knowledge required to replace and dispose of catheter bags and monitor the health of people using indwelling and suprapubic catheters.

 

This training is particularly relevant for those in general support worker roles, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide high-quality care in a variety of settings.

Learning Outcomes:

Catheter Bag Replacement and Disposal:

   - Gain hands-on experience in the correct techniques for replacing and disposing of catheter bags, ensuring both hygiene and patient comfort are maintained.

Health Monitoring:

   - Learn to effectively monitor the health of individuals using indwelling and suprapubic catheters, identifying potential issues early and ensuring timely intervention.

Hand Hygiene:

   - Understand the critical importance of hand hygiene in preventing infections: master proper handwashing techniques and the use of hand sanitisers to maintain a sterile environment.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

   - Learn the correct procedures for donning and doffing PPE to protect both the caregiver and the patient. This includes gloves, gowns, masks, and face shields, ensuring all protocols are followed to minimise the risk of contamination.
